The world is open

Hello from the UK! We’re catching our breath after a whirlwind tour of Paris — complete with a Eurostar dash to London and a train ride up north to visit family and friends. This weekend, we’ll head back to Paris before beginning our long journey home to South America. It’s been an amazing trip so far — equal parts exhilarating and exhausting! There’s nothing quite like running on just an hour and a half of sleep after 30 hours of travel, only to dive straight into sightseeing and pre-planned tours. Our tiredness certainly didn’t help when a logistical hiccup at Airport Charles de Gaulle train station turned into a near two-hour game of “pass the passenger,” ending with us on a train to an inaccessible station. But more on that in our upcoming report on accessible travel in Paris! Many of our hotel and tour arrangements were organised by The World is Accessible main sponsor, Fora Travel, and it was such a pleasure to experience what it’s like to have true travel experts take the reins. Judy Tudor, a Fora representative, went above and beyond — not only finding a hotel that perfectly suited our needs, but also pairing us with outstanding tour guides who impressed us with their knowledge, attentiveness, and thoughtful planning. They even pre-checked which cafés along our route had accessible restrooms ready for us to use at a moment’s notice! After this experience, I can confidently say that if you’re looking for expert help planning your next accessible getaway, Fora Travel truly has you covered. Their one-on-one consultations with leading accessible travel specialists ensure your needs are met, your wishes heard, and your trip stays comfortably within budget. We joined a guided walk through the Musée d’Orsay, the former train station now home to masterpieces by Van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir. Our guide, Remy, shared fascinating insights that brought the art—and the museum’s history—to vivid life. As mentioned, I’ll be sharing much more about these experiences soon — including our second tour, which explored the sights of Île de la Cité with our guide, Elli, who showed us that this region of Paris is more than just about Notre-Dame (as amazing as the grand cathedral is). Once I’m home and have recuperated, I will be on somewhat of a writing frenzy. But for now, please enjoy a slightly abridged version of the newsletter. Normal service will resume on December 9th!
